The leadership challenge

"Because I said so" doesn't work with Gen Z

Four generations can now be working in the same team, shaped by different experiences of work, communication, authority and career.

Managers can easily get caught between two extremes: tightening control and losing engagement, or over-accommodating and weakening accountability.

The better approach is understanding what shapes younger employees while keeping expectations, boundaries and performance standards clear.

These two days turn Generation Z research into practical leadership actions managers can use immediately.

What you'll walk away with

Practical Gen Z leadership training for today's managers

Understand the generation, attract and onboard young talent, strengthen retention and lead with clearer expectations, feedback and accountability.

Understand the generation

Separate useful generational patterns from stereotypes, life stage and individual personality.

Attract & onboard

How you'll learn

Not two days of sitting through slides

Laura combines research with practical frameworks, workplace cases, group discussion and direct application to the challenges participants are already facing.

Research, not stereotypes

Research-based presentations help participants understand Gen Z and wider generational dynamics.

Real workplace discussions

Explore challenges participants are already experiencing with younger employees and teams.

Practical exercises

Apply the thinking to recruitment, onboarding, feedback, autonomy, performance and retention.

Leadership scenarios

Work through situations involving coaching, accountability, flexibility and psychological safety.

Personal action planning

Translate the learning into concrete actions for your own leadership and organisation.

The goal is simple: leave with ideas you can actually use when you return to work.

What keeps young talent engaged

What gives young employees energy and what drains it

Laura's workplace research highlights several factors that can strengthen engagement and others that can create unnecessary frustration.

⚡ Key energisers

  • Connection - relationships and belonging.
  • Recognition - useful feedback and appreciation.
  • Autonomy - ownership within clear boundaries.
  • Growth - opportunities to learn and progress.
  • Trust - confidence from managers and the organisation.

🪫 Common drainers

  • Lack of clarity - unclear expectations and priorities.
  • Inefficiency - unnecessary friction and processes.
  • Outdated systems - tools that slow work down.
  • Decision delays - slow or unclear decisions.
  • Rigid hierarchy - hierarchy without clear added value.

Core principle: understand the generation, lead the individual.
